Must See: Murakami at Galerie Perrotin
Most Saturdays you'll find me one of two places with my partner in crime. The first is exploring the city on our old school Schwinns ( #schwinnsinthecity). Second, is enjoying the insane art scene around the city. This weekend we were fortunate to find a master, TAKASHI MURAKAMI, right around the corner at Galerie Perrotin. Smiles abound.
We hit the Galerie Perrotin on the Lower East Side to view a solo exhibit by one of our favorite artists, Takashi Murakami. I was originally drawn to Murakami's work through his insane sculpture and collaborations with Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton. Issey Miyake, Kanye West. In this show he works to "asserts a desire to mix high culture and popular culture in a <super flat> artwork and features his signature highly detailed, large format work".
If you haven't been, Perrotin is must visit. Decamping from an Upper East Side space shared with art dealer Dominique Lévy in 2016, the gallery spans 3 floors and 25,000sf of the former Beckenstein fabric factory.
Murakami will be featured through June 17th. Next up at the Galerie Perrotin, JR! See you at the opening!
